Chalk Dust and Turning Pages: My Teaching Practice Journey
As per bed curriculum, we the student of Kaviyattu College OF Education, are embarking on a teaching practice journey to boost our skill and translate theoretical knowledge into practical experience.
First week experience
Day 01
Today 14/07/2025 marked the beginning of my teaching practice. We arrived at school at 9.00 The senior teacher arranged our seating and received time table During the third period there was no teacher in class 8E, so I was assigned to substitute for that teacher. I introduced myself to the student, later they introduced themselves to me. I managed the classroom very well. Following the 4th period, there was a lunch break in school and we also joined to serve free meal to students. After lunch break we worked on our lesson plan and prepared my first class. I taught 9B in sixth period, it is malayalam medium I give introduction about the chapter and check pre requisite. I felt a sense of accomplishment after completing my first class. We left the school at 4.00 pm concluding my first day. I'm looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that tomorrow will bring.
Day - 02
For this day I prepared lesson plan for 8th and 9 th standard students. I created charts to make them actively participated in the classroom activities. I used real life examples and objects that around us for getting the concept. Then I give a problem related to that. I summarized the concept at the end of the class and gave follow up activity.
I will focus on deliver the content accurately, ensuring that students grasp the concept very clearly.
Day - 03
I prepared lesson plan for both 8th and 9th standard. I created activity card for 8 th standard students and they solve the problem. The classes would be very cooperative and engaging, students can freely ask their doubts. Students responded well and participated in discussion. Team based activity also fostered collaboration and communication.
Day - 04
I started the class 9 B with provoking questions related to the concept taught in the previous class, students answered it clearly. Then I taught drawing of square and triangle by using the perimeter and equal division of parallel lines. I gave activity card to the students, and they solve it. From today experience, I learnt the importance of being flexible and prepared for unexpected responsibilities like substitution also realised the importance of team based activity and collaboration. Overall the day was an enriching one.
Day- 05
For 8E I selected problem solving activities related to algebraic identity. For 9B I planned to draw hexagon by using perimeter and equal division of parallel lines. I also selected a short video to demonstrate how hexagon draw , aiming to cater to visual learners. The video presentation was especially effective it helped clarify abstract concepts and initiated an enthusiastic discussion. I learned that combining visual, verbal and interactive method enhances students understanding
