EKTA–2025: A Day of Care, Health, Creativity, and Community Service

Day 3  – Community Living Camp, Kaviyattu College of Education

The third day of the EKTA–2025 Community Living Camp was a powerful blend of physical fitness, health awareness, humanitarian values, creativity, and community service, making it one of the most meaningful and impactful days of the camp. Every session of the day reflected the true objectives of the B.Ed. curriculum by nurturing responsible, compassionate, and socially committed future teachers.

The day began with a morning Yoga Session, which prepared the student teachers both physically and mentally for the day’s activities. Through basic yogasanas and breathing exercises, the session promoted flexibility, concentration, and inner calmness. The peaceful and refreshing atmosphere created a positive beginning to the day and reinforced the importance of a healthy lifestyle for teachers.

The formal sessions commenced at 9:40 a.m. with a Palliative Care Awareness Class conducted by Ms. Reshma Jayan, MLSP. She sensitively explained the concept of care, focusing on both physical care and psychosocial care. Her session highlighted the values of empathy, compassion, emotional support, and dignity in caring for individuals suffering from chronic and life-limiting illnesses. This session deeply touched the participants and instilled strong humanitarian values among the student teachers.

This was followed by an informative session by Mr. M. Jayaprakash Sir on public health issues, including rat fever (leptospirosis), dengue fever, and amoebic dysentery. He explained the causes, symptoms, modes of transmission, and preventive measures related to these diseases. Emphasis on hygiene, sanitation, safe drinking water, and early medical care helped student teachers understand the importance of community awareness and prevention in public health.

The next session on First Aid and Emergency Care, conducted by Mr. Harshakumar S., provided essential life-saving knowledge. The session covered CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), emergency response techniques, and correct first-response measures for snake bites. This practical knowledge empowered student teachers with confidence to respond responsibly during emergencies.

From 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m., the energetic Zumba Session led by Ms. Rinta Jony filled the atmosphere with joy, movement, and enthusiasm. The session promoted physical fitness, stress relief, and mental relaxation, making learning fun, active, and refreshing.

The post-lunch session introduced creativity through an Origami Class (2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.), conducted by Mr. Prasanth Vembayam from Sasthra Sahithya Parishad. Student teachers learned to create various paper models such as crow, butterfly, frog, shirt, and paper hats, using simple and low-cost materials. This session enhanced creativity, concentration, patience, and cooperative learning skills.

The day reached its most meaningful phase with a community service activity—a field survey on amoebic dysentery in Manikkal Panchayath. Student teachers actively participated in collecting public health data through household visits, form filling, and interaction with community members. This real-life exposure helped them understand the importance of community surveys, awareness creation, and grassroots-level health interventions in disease prevention.

Day 03 of EKTA–2025 stood as a true symbol of holistic education—where knowledge, compassion, creativity, physical fitness, and social responsibility came together. The integration of yoga, awareness sessions, first aid training, creative activities, and community service made the day deeply enriching and meaningful. It strengthened the spirit of “Unity for Community” by connecting learning with real-life social commitment.
