"Little Voices, Big Lessons – My Phase Two Teaching Journey, second week”

 Day 6

Today marked sixth day of my teaching practice. In today’s class, I revised the formula for the area of a circle and gave a few example problems for students to solve. They actively participated and clarified their doubts. Most of the students were able to solve the problems accurately

I understood that continuous practice and revision are essential for students to gain confidence in solving mathematical problems. Regular exercises help reinforce their conceptual understanding.

Day 7

On the seventh day of my teaching practice, I planned to teach problems related to the area of a circle using the Inquiry Model of Teaching. My main objective was to encourage students to think critically, ask questions, and arrive at the solution through their own reasoning rather than direct instruction.

During the class, I displayed the problem on the slide and invited students to ask statements or questions related to it. I limited my responses to “yes” or “no”, which motivated the students to think deeply, refine their questions, and explore different possibilities. Through discussion, observation, and logical reasoning, the students actively participated and gradually arrived at the correct solution by the end of the session.

This class helped me realize the effectiveness of the inquiry model in promoting independent thinking and active learning. Students were highly engaged and showed enthusiasm throughout the process. I also learned that the teacher’s role as a facilitator is crucial in guiding students without directly providing answers. Overall, the session was successful and enhanced both my confidence and my understanding of learner-centered teaching strategies.

Day 8

Today marked the eighth day of my teaching practice. Since I completed the chapter Circle Measures, I conducted a diagnostic test for 20 marks to assess students’ understanding of the concepts learned, including circumference, diameter, π, and area of a circle. The test was designed to identify students’ strengths and areas where further clarification was needed.

Through this activity, I understood the importance of diagnostic testing in evaluating the effectiveness of teaching. The test helped me recognize common errors and misconceptions among students, which will guide me in planning remedial teaching. Overall, this experience enhanced my understanding of assessment as a tool for learning and helped me reflect on my teaching strategies.

Day 9

On the ninth day of my teaching practice, I introduced the chapter Real Numbers with the help of ICT by showing visual representations and examples. The use of slides and digital explanations helped students understand the classification and meaning of real numbers clearly. Students were attentive and actively participated during the class.

From this lesson, I realized that ICT plays an important role in making abstract mathematical concepts more concrete and engaging. I learned that a well-planned digital presentation can improve students’ attention and understanding. Overall, the session was effective and increased my confidence in teaching a new chapter.

Day 10

Today marked the tenth day of my teaching practice, which coincided with Children’s Day (November 14).  The school conducted a special assembly in connection with Children’s Day. After that, I handled two periods for class 9D. I explained the concept of distance between two numbers on a number line and guided students through examples. I also conducted an activity to reinforce the concept, and since I had two periods, I was able to complete the topic as planned.

This day helped me understand the value of effective time management and structured lesson planning. I realized that providing sufficient practice and activity-based learning helps students gain clarity and confidence in mathematical concepts. Overall, it was a productive and satisfying teaching experience.
