"Little Voices, Big Lessons – My Phase Two Teaching Journey, first week”
Day 1
Today marked the beginning of my teaching practice, and I felt excited and a little nervous as I stepped into the school environment. In the 4th period, I entered class 9D, the class I will be handling throughout my teaching practice journey. I began by introducing myself to the students, and then I encouraged them to introduce themselves. This helped in building a warm and friendly rapport.
After the introductions, I briefly introduced the chapter that I will be teaching. Since it was my first class with them, I intentionally spent time interacting and getting to know the students better. I wanted to create a comfortable atmosphere where they feel free to communicate and learn. The students were very cooperative, and the session went smoothly.
Overall, it was a meaningful and positive experience for me. I felt happy to connect with the students and look forward to the coming days with enthusiasm and confidence. I am hopeful that this journey will help me grow as a teacher and provide valuable learning experiences.
Day 2
Today was the second day of my teaching practice. I planned to teach the topic circle measures with a focus on helping students understand that the circumference and diameter change in the same factor.
I began the class by revising basic ideas about a circle and then introduced the concept of diameter and circumference. To support the explanation, I used ICT tools to visually demonstrate how changes in diameter lead to proportional changes in circumference. The students were attentive and responded well to the interactive explanation.
Through this class, I understood the importance of using visual and digital aids to strengthen mathematical understanding. Students were more engaged when they could see the relationship dynamically. I also realized that encouraging observation and questioning helps students grasp abstract ideas better. Overall, it was a productive session and a valuable learning experience for me as a teacher.
Day 3
I received three substitution periods today — two in class 9B and one in class 10C. In 9B, the Mathematics teacher asked me to conduct a class test on the chapter Similar Triangles, so I administered the test and supervised the students. In 10C, I engaged the students in meaningful study time.
In class 9D, I taught the new concept of π. Students learned that π represents the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle. I guided them to observe and understand that the circumference is approximately 3.14 (π) times the diameter, reinforcing the relationship through explanation and classroom interaction.
Day 4
Today marked the 4th day of my teaching practice. I reached the school on time and got a substitution period in class 9B during the first period, where I took the attendance and maintained classroom discipline. In class 9D, I taught problems related to the circumference of a circle. The students were attentive and actively participated in solving the questions. I guided them through the steps of calculation and clarified their doubts. Most of the students were able to apply the formula correctly by the end of the class. The session helped me understand the importance of providing adequate practice to strengthen their conceptual understanding. Overall, it was a productive and satisfying day of teaching practice.
Day 5
Today marked the 4th day of my teaching practice. Today I had four substitution periods in classes 8 and 9. In class 9D, I explained the formula for finding the area of a circle and worked out a related problem on the board. Students followed the steps carefully and tried similar problems on their own.
I realized that providing step-by-step explanations and sufficient practice problems helps students clearly understand and apply mathematical formulas confidently.
